Ecopetrol. Bogotá D.C. November 19th of 2012. For the first time, Colombia will host two of the main events of the worldwide energy sector: the Executive Assembly of the World Energy Council (WEC) and the World Energy Leaders’ Summit. These events, which will be carried out in November 2014, will include the participation of the presidents of the most representative energy companies in the world, the governments of WEC member nations and the most important experts of the world energy chain.

The decision of selecting Cartagena as the city that will host said events was taken last week during the Executive Assembly carried out in Monaco, Monte Carlo, and was unanimously approved by the participating countries.

World leaders obtained firsthand knowledge about the economics advances of the country in the last few years during the presentation of the Colombian candidacy, especially concerning the energy sector, which was the main destination of foreign investment and has been the greatest producer of resources of the growth and welfare of Colombians.

President Juan Manuel Santos, in a message to those assembled in Monaco, invited them to visit Colombia and directly verify the situation of the country as well as how the oil, natural gas, mining, electricity and biofuel sectors have been able to growth and gain strengthen. Similarly, Ecopetrol, as a member of the Colombian Committee of the World Council in Colombia (COCME), presented itself as the sponsor of these events.

The Colombian candidacy was presented by COCME and had the support of the National Government as well as the backing of the WEC Committees for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The World Energy Council is a leading non-profit organization founded in 1923 for researching and developing sustainability within the energy sector. Its mission is to promote the sustainable supply and efficient use of energy for the benefit of all citizens. Consisting of 93 countries, it represents over 3.000 public and private organizations, including governments, major companies and international experts within the energy sector.
